I think it is about time I begin planning for the day I win the lottery. I'm not convinced that anyone could spend $50 million dollars better than I could, but I'm willing to give all of you the benefit of the doubt. Let's assume we can put aside those wonderfully selfless answers we'd all begin with to impress each other, like the charities we'd donate to and the wise investments we'd make, and get greedy. I want to start with real estate. So share people...before I'm too rich to post blogs and continue to associate with the likes of all of you.
The top 5 homes I am going to buy with my lavish lottery winnings are as follows...
The French Quarter - New Orleans
My first trip to this city was in 2001 with my now-husband, and we've been back frequently since then to the city that we both fell in love with. I would take the first of my new lotto money and buy an historic house in The French Quarter and show the country that no natural disaster will diminish the power of this incredible, unique and fantastically beautiful place.
Charleston, South Carolina
The next portion of my well-deserved fortune would go to buying an overwhelmingly huge, ridiculously impractical, glamorously decadent plantation Ala "Gone with the Wind". I would prefer to be close to Charleston, but would also be very happy to be close to Savannah, Mobile, Memphis or a handful of the other incredible cities in the South.
Brooklyn, New York
Since NYC is my current home, I would have to buy a place here. Brooklyn being a bit out of my price range right now, once I come into my vast fortune I will find the most beautiful brownstone as close to Prospect Park as I can find.
Barbados
When you're embarrassingly rich like I'm going to be, you need a vacation home somewhere glamorous and warm. I believe that Barbados will be my choice.

Scotland
My choice, above all other overly hyped locations in Europe and elsewhere, is Scotland. For the people, the scenery, the atmosphere, the history...I'd take the rest of the lotto booty and find a mid-size estate with grand English gardens. And my dog will finally visit her homeland.
Let me know where you'd go...and maybe I'll extend you an invite to be my house guest when I hit it big.
But then again, maybe not.

A beautiful mansion on Lake Geneva, Switzerland.
A large apartment in the center of Paris.
A villa in Tuscany or south of France.
A condo in a cool ski village (Whistler...)
And another villa in St. Barts -- or anywhere that's warm and chic.
